Improving Patient Involvement
Engaging with individuals and communities can seem a daunting task for commissioners who face many other pressures. Some feel that there is very little to be gained from such an effort, while others can see the benefits but do not know how to go about it.
This module is designed to address both the "why" and the "how" of responding to patients through commissioning processes. It is designed to offer a range of techniques that you can then apply to your own unique situation. Using highly interactive workshops, delegates will find themselves learning from each other, identifying practical solutions that will deliver real benefits to patients and communities.
As a result of preparing for, and attending the workshop, you will:
- Understand the legal and policy context for patient and public involvement in practice based commissioning, including the likely impact of world class commissioning
- Have a better awareness of how patients and the public are influencing commissioning decisions across the country
- Understand three levels of engagement, namely community-wide, practice-wide and individual.
- Understand and be better placed to implement some of the most promising techniques to promote engagement at each of the three levels
- Have a deeper understanding of how patients and the public can contribute to commissioning activities and the risks involved with different approaches
- Begin to develop an action plan that covers your public and patient engagement activities for the next 12-24 months
