Mission & Vision
The mission is to enable all who participate in the Academy to build the knowledge, confidence and skills to use practice based commissioning to improve services, develop primary care and enhance the health and health care of local people.
Approach
The Academy will combine taught courses, Web-based learning, with access to information, resources and networking opportunities in order to:
- Support the development of skills for effective PBC in a way that the busy clinician can access and utilise within their daily practice, by combining
- Develop innovative approaches to commissioning for quality in ways that improve patient health and experience, address local need and reduce inequalities
- Spread best practice in GP commissioning and primary care management
- Enable GPs to improve core primary care services to reduce reliance on commissioning care from other sources
- To support GPs and those actively involved in PBC to begin to develop 'world class' commissioning skills
The Academy is targeted towards
- GPs
- Other clinicians / health care professionals with an interest in practice based commissioning at either a practice, cluster or locality level
- Managers working on PBC within practices
- Managers of PBC clusters and PCTs
- Others who support practice based Commissioning
